Happy Birthday Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. goes down in history as one of the principal leaders of the civil rights movement in the United States and a prominent advocate of nonviolent protest. King’s challenges to segregation and racial discrimination helped convince many white Americans to support the cause of civil rights in the United States.

King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and was ordained as a Baptist minister at age 18. He graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 and from Crozer Theological Seminary in 1951. In 1955 he earned a doctoral degree in systematic theology from Boston University. While in Boston, King met Coretta Scott, whom he married in 1953.

In 1954 King accepted his first pastorate at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery’s black community had long-standing grievances about the mistreatment of blacks on city buses. Heading the year-long bus-boycott against segregation in buses, King soon became a national figure.

In 1957 King helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), an organization of black churches and ministers that aimed to challenge racial segregation. King and other SCLC leaders encouraged the use of nonviolent marches, demonstrations, and boycotts to protest discrimination.

King and other black leaders organized the 1963 March on Washington, a massive protest in Washington, D.C., for jobs and civil rights. King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech to an audience of more than 200,000 civil rights supporters. The speech and the march created the political momentum that resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibited segregation in public accommodations and discrimination in education and employment. As a result of King’s effective leadership, he was awarded the 1964 Nobel Prize for peace.

Throughout 1966 and 1967 King increasingly turned the focus of his activism to the redistribution of the nation’s economic wealth to overcome entrenched black poverty. In the spring of 1968 he went to Memphis, Tennessee, to support striking black garbage workers. King was assassinated in Memphis on April 4, 1968.

President Obama's Full Speech at Tucson Memorial

President Obama traveled to Tucson Wednesday to help memorialize those who died in Saturday's shooting rampage, and to honor those who are still struggling with their wounds.

Nicki Minaj in V Magazine

Now you can say what you want and call her dope, whack, or the nicest, but she's definately taken the marketing thing to the next level and understands imaging and branding! Kinda reminds me of a Lady Gaga, Missy Elliot, and Foxy brown all rolled in one....now all she has to do is capture the essence of lets say a Lauren Hill and for female rhyme spitters the game is officially shut down!

New Zodiac Sign Dates: Ophiuchus The 13th Sign?

Your zodiac sign may not actually be your zodiac sign anymore.

Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth’s alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, according to NBC. In addition, there may be a 13th Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus.

Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move the signs gradually change, as expected.

The change didn’t happen over night either. The 12 signs were designated to different periods of the year almost 3,000 years ago, when astrology began, and since then the Earth’s position in relation to the sun has changed.

While the sign many people were born under may now be different, it shouldn’t affect horoscope readings, according to NBC.

See if your Zodiac sign has changed below.

The New Dates:

Custom Yeezy Diamond Encrusted Watch By Tiret

Damn I'm hating!

You are looking at Tiret’s $180,000 custom timepiece designed with yellow and black diamonds set in 18k gold with none other than Kanye West’s image. According to reports, Kanye commissioned the exclusive piece and can be seen wearing it from time to time.

Tiret claims it took them over five months to create the dial. The dial itself is in gold toned mother-of-pearl, with a combo of white, yellow, brown, and black diamonds. The bezel is lined with very large diamonds as well. The watch is said to have a total of about 8 carats of stones. Kayne’s face has been immortalized on the dial – complete with sunglasses.

Top 10 Things People Fear Most...

Either I'm dramatic as hell or whoever came up w/ this list must be basic as hell because the ish that I fear is a little bit more down to earth than any of this...like being broke, going bald, or getting a chipped tooth LMAO! But then again in a generic sense I guess this list does make a little bit of sense though....

According to TotallyTop10
1. Snakes
It is probably a good rule of thumb to follow: if it scares Indiana Jones, it scares me. And so, like Dr. Jones, we find ourselves terrified of the reptiles we perceive to be slimy and sinister. In reality, most snakes are neither, but since one talked Eve into taking a bite of that damn apple, snakes have gotten a bad rep. It’s difficult to overcome Biblical prejudice and Harrison Ford.
2. Public Speaking
Most of us are self conscious enough when we leave the house, often perceiving that people are watching us, judging us for a fashion faux pas or some extra holiday weight around the middle. So imagine the tension if all eyes really are on you? This popular fear leads to an equally popular bit of advice: just imagine your whole audience is naked.
