Curtis: What I’ve Learned

Esquire is one of the few print magazines that I still hold a subscription to and the “What I’ve Learned” page is hands down my favorite monthly section. Curtis recently sat for one, which you can read in its entirety here. Below I’ve selected a few choice quotes.

I never saw drug use as a good option. I’d rather have an additional ten dollars than smoke. It wasn’t a decision to not smoke weed. It was a decision to hustle. It was a business decision.

There are too many entrepreneurs. We need the worker to make the process function properly.

The best businessmen in the world make a bad deal sometimes. And it’s not usually in a boardroom. Most of them marry the wrong woman. That business deal is the worst business deal of all.

Curtis Jackson. I identify with the name. When I look in the mirror, I see Curtis.

Jay-Z is as politically correct as some of the politicians. He’s safe. There’s points when you’re acquiring financing, you make adjustments. He’s made those adjustments. It’s his choice. For me, it’s not a necessity.

Air Jordan. Tiger Woods. You know how a person is made for something? Eminem is made for hip-hop. The best rapper is a white man.

Is Charles Manson a serial killer? No, he isn’t, because he ain’t do no killing. He’s a coward. He was just crazy enough to influence people to kill for him. There were a lot of Charles Mansons in my neighborhood. There were no Napoleons.

She Said “Don’t C** In Her Mouth”

I admit when I first saw this pic I started thinking to myself and was like damn..."Out of all the cum that has ever came out of me didn't any of it even matter unless it went in somebodies mouth." (or at least those were the most memorable moments)...Now ain't that some sh*t! And I know that it might seem like some straight wildness to say but that's real game to some of us, no sh*t and probably why the people who'll get offended sex lives are lacking anyway. Or maybe it's just me...but I do gotta admit though up until this point even after all this time I never seemed to wonder exactly how do you even begin to find out if a chick swallows or not? Like whats the precursor to that sh*t? All I know is that some girls front and some girls don't. (Lol)...Like my favorite sh*ts is when I'm sitting there getting sucked off and then I tell her I'm about the cum and you can just sit there and watch em (women) thinking about how they wanna handle it...do I wanna hold him down? tha hell with this n*gga?...and it's gets even crazier when I see some girls go into panic mode like they don't know what they're supposed to do next.

Either way I go hard for mines and any girl that has ever dealt with me knows that so as long as babygirl is fly and she goes hard for hers to, I think I'll be alright. Now honestly when I'm dealing with women I truthfully don't even really expect anything, but if they can catch me with something unexpected like that, than i think that's my kind of women!

FBI Lists 25 Most Dangerous Streets in the US

I beg to differ. I’m suspicious of any list coming from the FBI, this list needs an update. This is probably just another disingenuous attempt to drop property value on inner city blocks so developers can sweep in and disenfranchise some more minorities. After all, its just business as usual.

In March 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with eight felonies, including perjury and obstruction of justice. In August, he violated his bail agreement and was thrown in jail. His actions were deplorable for anybody, but Kilpatrick was no Average Joe–he was the mayor of Detroit.

Unfortunately for the Motor City, Kilpatrick, 38, is just one ripple in the area’s sea of crime. Detroit is the worst offender on our list of America’s most dangerous cities, thanks to a staggering rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.

“Detroit has, historically, been one of the more violent cities in the U.S.,” says Megan Wolfram, an analyst at iJet Intelligent Risk Systems, a Maryland-based risk-assessment firm. “They have a number of local crime syndicates there–a number of small gangs who tend to compete over territory.”

Detroit was followed closely on the list by the greater Memphis, Tenn., and Miami, Fla., metropolitan areas. Those three were the only large cities in America with more than 950 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.

Behind the Numbers

To determine our list, we used violent crime statistics from the FBI’s latest uniform crime report, issued in 2008. The violent crime category is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. We evaluated U.S. metropolitan statistical areas–geographic entities defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget for use by federal agencies in collecting, tabulating and publishing federal statistics–with more than 500,000 residents.

Is Unprotected Sex the New Marriage?

Hmmm… Is unprotected sex the new marriage? Thats what an Oakland teenager had to say that has the world in a buzz. He suggested that “among his friends and acquaintances, ditching the condoms for the pill, signifies taking monogamy to a new level.” I thought about it, I looked at all my relationships and well I’ve always gone by that logic as well. Once the condom comes off we are together, and she graduated to the title of wifey.

Some said it was ‘mindless hip-hop MTV” and not intelligent information, but I think its just how people think in urban America. Its not like this is the first backwards ideology we declare gospel there are plenty. We’ll have oral sex with out protection but won’t have intercourse without protect, so we’ll rather eat the disease… Yeah genius.

Now, I do believe that having unprotected sex does build a certain level of trust between partners that doesn’t come natural. Sex in general is a crap roll with your life, and a lot of men and women are gambling with their life, hoping they don’t come home with something that doesn’t go away. So how many times have you been married?

Alexxys Tylor “Black Men Were Taught To Be Promiscuous By Slavemasters”

“African-American” Buying Power Increases"

NEW YORK African Americans constitute the largest racial minority market, wielding greater economic clout than ever before, according to the Selig Center for Economic Growth.black_buying_power

That sector’s buying power was $318 billion in 1990. But 18 years later, African-American buying power equaled $913 billion, and is projected to increase to $1.24 trillion in 2013, per Selig. That would mark a 35.7 percent gain over those five years.

The African-American Internet population reflects the high percentage of young people in the general African-American community: 30 percent overall are under age 18, and 71 percent of that group is online.

While 45 percent of African-American households had some type of Internet access in 2007, this group is more likely than white Americans to surf the ‘Net via mobile phone, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

New York Post releases statement on controversial cartoon

This statement was released by the newspaper Thursday night in response to protests over its cartoon.

Under the headline "That Cartoon," The New York Post last night put up on its Web site the following editorial:

Wednesday's Page Six cartoon -- caricaturing Monday's police shooting of a chimpanzee in Connecticut -- has created considerable controversy.

It shows two police officers standing over the chimp's body: "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill," one officer says.

It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill. Period.

But it has been taken as something else -- as a depiction of President Obama, as a thinly veiled expression of racism.

This most certainly was not its intent; to those who were offended by the image, we apologize.

However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past -- and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback.

To them, no apology is due.

Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon -- even as the opportunists seek to make it something else.
