The 10 Most Violent States in the US



The Institute for Economics and Peace released their report of the ten most violent states in the U.S. The violence is measured by the number of homicides, violent crimes, people in jail, and number of police officers per 100,00 people along with the general availability of small arms.

Is it me or does the south account for 7-8 names on the list, depending if you are counting South Clik as a confederate state....

10. Maryland:
United States Peace Index: 3.24
Percentage Change Since 1991: 18.2 percent more safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,749

9. South Carolina:
United States Peace Index: 3.26
Percentage Change Since 1991: 16.7 percent more safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,901

8. Oklahoma:
United States Peace Index: 3.27
Percentage Change Since 1991: 2.3 percent less safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,803

7. Arkansas
United States Peace Index: 3.3
Percentage Change Since 1991: 5.1 percent less safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,732

6. Texas:
United States Peace Index: 3.3
Percentage Change Since 1991: 16.4 percent more safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,704

5. Alabama
United States Peace Index: 3.42
Percentage Change Since 1991: 9.9 percent more safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,644

United States Peace Index: 3.61
Percentage Change Since 1991: 9.3 percent less safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $1,844

1. Louisiana
United States Peace Index: 3.97
Percentage Change Since 1991: 7.1 percent more safe
Total Cost Of Crime Per Person: $2,458
