And the winner is.....

How real is this...

I just got word today that the team that I participated w/ on my capstone project for graduate school last year won the The 2010 Information Systems Management Award. Here's a copy of the email I got from my graduate school professor a couple of days ago:

Tori, Kimo, Anthony & Valerie,

Congratulations! I submitted your paper to the DeVry competition and you won! The competition is among all DeVry IS600 teams, both online and on ground, for the entire year. Along with a plaque, you will be receiving a cash award in the mail. The cash award is $1,000 divided equally among the team members. Below is the announcement I received:

The 2010 Information Systems Management Award (IS600)

The Information Systems Management Award is presented annually to the School’s MISM student team that, in a comprehensive plan, best demonstrates the ability to integrate various dimensions of an information systems management function simulating a real-world situation.

The 2010 award is presented to a team of students from the Online Center, including Anthony White, Kimo Thomas, (me), and Valerie Whitfield. In their project, ‘ACP Patient Portal,’ the team developed a web-based solution to streamline ACP’s patient admissions process while decreasing operating costs and improving patient satisfaction without increasing additional personnel.

The team’s instructor was Lou Ann McElyea.

And it definitely doesn't hurt that I'm going to get that C-hecko either!

Patience.....

I been boxed in all my life
So tell me why in da fuck I shouldn't wild at light
Underneath the city lights
Everybody wanna play so everybody gotta pay the price
Just to get a luxury in life
Where you can get cut by the knife just for flashing a piece of ice
And where demons can hide, and wake up right next to you by your side
So I'm going for mine
Because everything ain't what it seems according to the hands of time
Mass collisions and suicide
Global suspicions of religions corroding the manuscripts of God
I didn't grow up in Oz
But I know that us and this planet ain't the only ones involved
Politicians mistaken the law, trying to design the divine principles of what God's
Sometimes I sit an wonder what pharaohs seen sitting looking at the stairs
Or whats in my grandmothers heart, when she has to watch sin bury the next generation of little boys
I don't know where it starts
Or how it begins
But I know that it ain't over
When will it ever end
Where the struggles of men, extend to even getting exploited due to the color of their skin
Maybe that's what Malcolm meant or Gandhi blast
Or Jesse James ran for when that nigga hauled ass
We need revolution back, before evolution wipes human existence right off the map
Or maybe I'm running my yap
But we still gotta raise our families so you do the math
Stand up like a man and react
Or hold your hands like a coward and look and laugh
...Patience

For the love again....

Ok so I been thinking...in the last 3 yrs or so I kinda slacked of from writing because so much of my attention has been devoted to school, establishing a career, and providing a foundation for myself both spiritually and financially which fortunately I've been able to see come to fruition so in the last couple of wks I really been feeling the urge to get back to "me" writing, painting, fashion, and embracing myself in all forms of artistic fashion so I think I'ma start posting the joints that I write on here for all of wizards of wordplay like me can enjoy hoping to inspire, incite, or hopefully encourage!

And if you start biting my sh!t...then its cool, what more can I say I guess I'll just have to be flattered then

"Why Successful Black Women Can't Find A Man"

I gotta say, I kinda understand both sides of this story but as a black man I gotta admit and side somewhat more w/ women on this one simply due to the fact that at one point in time our women were forced to live up to the expectations of man but now as black men we have allowed ourselves to get to a point of being scrutinized for not living up to the expectations of a black woman which I must say, to me is a statement that we have lost our power as men so we can't put that blame on anybody else but us therefore in my view, inherently that means that many of us as black men have become lost and spiritually weaker then the women we divinely have expected to support us.

And also here is: part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | part 7 | part 8

And... part 9

Curtis: What I’ve Learned

Esquire is one of the few print magazines that I still hold a subscription to and the “What I’ve Learned” page is hands down my favorite monthly section. Curtis recently sat for one, which you can read in its entirety here. Below I’ve selected a few choice quotes.

I never saw drug use as a good option. I’d rather have an additional ten dollars than smoke. It wasn’t a decision to not smoke weed. It was a decision to hustle. It was a business decision.

There are too many entrepreneurs. We need the worker to make the process function properly.

The best businessmen in the world make a bad deal sometimes. And it’s not usually in a boardroom. Most of them marry the wrong woman. That business deal is the worst business deal of all.

Curtis Jackson. I identify with the name. When I look in the mirror, I see Curtis.

Jay-Z is as politically correct as some of the politicians. He’s safe. There’s points when you’re acquiring financing, you make adjustments. He’s made those adjustments. It’s his choice. For me, it’s not a necessity.

Air Jordan. Tiger Woods. You know how a person is made for something? Eminem is made for hip-hop. The best rapper is a white man.

Is Charles Manson a serial killer? No, he isn’t, because he ain’t do no killing. He’s a coward. He was just crazy enough to influence people to kill for him. There were a lot of Charles Mansons in my neighborhood. There were no Napoleons.
